On my first backpacking trip to the Olympics, we hiked in and stayed the night at an alpine lake. The guys fished while I painted by the shore. Nearby a fawn and her calves grazed on leaves. In the morning, the sun dappled the evergreens turning some chartreuse and others emerald. As we packed up the deer returned to send us off- prancing around, jumping over logs, and sniffing our gear.
