We thought it had gotten too cloudy to see the mountain, but as we rounded the loop and took a left, Mount Hood peeked out of the cliffside. As we drove away from the trailhead we saw the most gorgeous fluorescent pink exploding over the mountain, turning the rock purple and the snow orange in a magical alpenglow. The valley below was already blanketed in cool shade and beams of golden sunshine reflected on the brush.
