In early December, we had a stretch of days with dense foggy mornings, barely able to see the end of our road, and bright, clear afternoons leaving Mount Baker visible from our living room. Our morning walks felt like wading through a dark atmospheric river. I vowed to collect snapshots in my mind and nature treasures in my pockets for the rest of the week. I allowed inspiration to fill my heart to the brim with colors, textures, shapes, and auras. Back in my studio, I spilled those ideas onto a birch panel. May this piece serve as a reminder to look for the bright spots in the dark seasons, that there can be beauty and ache at the same time, and that the fog will eventually burn off to reveal another sunny day.
